My studio is located on the North Shore of Lake Ponchartrain in Robert, Louisiana tucked in the woods bordering the Chappapeela Creek. It is centrally located between New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Slidell, Louisiana. I primarily build furniture with forged iron elements but I also create sculpture and architectural elements with other metals such as bronze, stainless steel and copper. Forging is a blacksmithing technique where metal bar and plate are heated in a forge until it is red hot, around 2000 degrees, and then hammered into shape on an anvil.
I have been working with iron full-time for over 25 years. My designs grow and evolve each year. My work is collected by many. I have been featured in many publications over the past years including, but not limited to, The New Orleans Home and Garden Magazine, The Louisiana Homes and Gardens Magazine, Inside Northside Magazine, & The Times Picayune New Orleans, LA local newspaper. I am a long term member of, and have been the past President and Vice President of, the Louisiana Metalsmiths Association and am a member of the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America. Most of my national and international exposure is due to exhibiting at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for the last 17 years. I work on custom orders most of the year due to this prestigious event. I have available work at times and welcome visitors to my studio or inquiries.
In addition to creating individually forged furniture, I also perform public iron casting demonstrations and blacksmiting demonstrations for various public art festivals for education purposes.
I have taught private blacksmithing lessons in my studio as well as continuing education classes in metal work at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. Due to the demand for lessons and lack of space to adequately teach in my shop, we are currently in the beginning phases of constructing a building in which I will teach basic blacksmithing. We hope to have the building ready to offer classes and private lessons in 2016. Please contact me via email if you are interested in private or group blacksmithing lessons. We are creating a list and will let you know as soon as we are ready.
